Use and Care Guide
Konekt
Metals:
Most metals on Konekt pieces are delivered with a live finish unless specified differently. The live finishes are designed to naturally patina over time.
-Maintenance:
-To clean, dust gently with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
-Un-lacquered polished brass/bronze surfaces can be re-polished using a polishing cream with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
-Do not use polisher or cleaning chemicals on any satin brass/bronze, blackened brass/bronze or patinated brass/bronze finishes.
Restoration: To restore a polished finish on an item with a live or non-live finish, we recommend that they be professionally cleaned and polished.
Blackened Steel and Plated Steel
Our blackened steel and plated steel products are lacquered to prevent rust. Lacquered surfaces are durable but should be treated with care as it is possible to chip, crack, or scratch the protective coating.
-Maintenance:
-To clean, dust gently with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
-Do not use any chemical cleaners, abrasives, or polishing compounds as this could affect the appearance of the finish.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel will not patina or rust.
-Maintenance:
-To clean, gently dust with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
-Refrain from using abrasive liquids, cleaners or polishers as they may alter the appearance.
Wood
Wood pieces have been stained and/or polished to bring depth and beauty to each finish. Although most are protected with either a clear coat or wax, they are still susceptible to wear.
-Maintenance:
To clean, use a damp, soft and non-abrasive cloth with water and mild soap if needed. Dry with a clean, soft cloth to remove all moisture. Any liquids spilled should be cleaned up and dried immediately. Do not use chemical cleaners. Do not place hot items directly on wood.
-Important Environmental Information:
-Do not place/leave hot or moist objects directly on wood
surfaces. Rubber or plastic left on the wood finish can damage the
finish.
-Do not place wood items near heaters, air conditioning units, or
in direct sunlight to prevent over-drying and fading.
-Avoid extreme humidity changes in your home, as this can cause
wood to expand and contract, and can cause damage.
-Maintain humidity levels between 35-45%, as extremely dry air can
cause wood to crack.
-Exposing wood to extreme moisture can also cause swelling and
warping.
-Restoration: We recommend that deeply stained or soiled wood pieces be professionally cleaned or refinished.
High Polish Polyurethane
-Maintenance: To clean, use a damp, soft and non-abrasive cloth. A mild soap can be used if needed. Dry with a clean, soft cloth to remove all moisture or soap residue. Do not use any waxes or products with ammonia.
Parchment
Parchment is an untanned animal hide.
-Maintenance: Occasionally wipe down the parchment with a dry, soft cloth. If it needs to be cleaned, wipe carefully with a slightly damp, soft cloth and then dry completely with a clean, soft cloth. Parchment is a natural material that breathes and may darken over time.
-Restoration: For damage to parchment please consult a furniture restoration specialist with knowledge of parchment.
Glass:
-Maintenance: Glass can be cleaned by wiping with a soft, damp cloth or glass cleaner with no additives. Apply the glass cleaner to a soft cloth rather than directly onto the fixture to avoid overspray onto metal or other components of product.
-Restoration: Light scratches and nicks can often be addressed by a professional glass service.
Fiberglass
-Regularly remove dust and debris with a soft-bristled brush or a damp cloth.
Maintenance:
-Clean spills immediately to prevent stains.
-For general cleaning, use a diluted solution of mild detergent and water.
-Dry with a soft cloth to remove all moisture and residue
-Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia - based cleaners. They can damage the finish and the fiberglass.
